14-year-old Mason Grammer in the Malan Breton show EAGLE-EYED fashion watchers may assume that certain New York brands have broken the law by sending underage models down their catwalks so far this season, but all is not as it seems. When 14-year-old Mason Grammer (daughter of Camille and Kelsey Grammer) walked in the Malan Breton show last week, eyebrows may have been raised in light of the advent of the recent federal law protecting "child" models- but as long as the brands in question follow certain guidelines, models under 18 are still allowed to walk. Mason Grammer on the catwalk for Malan Breton
The brand must: possess a certificate of eligibility to employ "child performers" issued by the New York State Department of Labour, The Fashion Law reports; submit a notice of its intention to use child performers; ensure those employed have valid work permits; adhere to the restricted working hours - including breaks after four hours of work; and keep evidence that the underage models' pay is entered into their trust funds as stipulated by the law. If these points are obeyed, models under 18 can take to the catwalk without concern - but, crucially, if any of these points are not met, the brands could be subject to significant fines: $1,000 for the first violation, $2,000 for the second and $3,000 for the third, and every one thereafter.
Stella McCartney HAVING cornered the womenswear market, Stella McCartney has set her sights on the world of menswear according to reports this morning. The London-based designer is said to be launching her first menswear collection for the spring/summer 2017 season in June, according to WWD, although which city it will be in is as yet unknown. It wouldn't be McCartney's first brush with menswear - the designer cut her teeth on Savile Row in the early days of her career working for Edward Sexton before she was appointed creative director at Chloé in 1997. The only additional category that she has introduced to her eponymous womenswear brand, which she founded in 2001 and is owned by Kering, has been childrenswear in 2010. Currently in the middle of preparation for its ready-to-wear autumn/winter 2016 show in Paris on March 7, the brand gave no comment when contacted this morning.
TAYLOR SWIFT used one of her acceptance speeches at last night's Grammy Awards to condemn those who "try to take credit for your accomplishments". Considered by many to be a thinly veiled criticism of Kanye West - who debuted his song Famous last week at his Yeezy show, revealing the lyric: "I might still have sex with Taylor. Why? I made that bitch famous" - Swift did not refer to anyone by name.
"As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame," Swift said. "'But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment."
Taylor Swift performs at last night's Grammy Awards Swift's triumph in the Album of the Year category for her record 1989 was not her only success of the night. The 26-year-old also took home the Video of the Year prize for her epic Bad Blood video, and Best Pop Vocal Album also for 1989. She didn't have quite as successful a night as her Bad Blood collaborator, Kendrick Lamar, who scooped five awards; while Justin Bieber won his first Grammy for Best Dance Recording for Where Are Ű Now. Taylor Swift with Selena Gomez at last night's Grammy Awards Opening the show by performing Out of the Woods, Swift appeared to have a vocal malfunction, which left her seemingly tearful, mouthing to friends, "I missed a note." Selena Gomez offered reassurance, but Swift could have looked to the stage for consolation since both Justin Bieber and Adele also suffered sound issues that impaired their performances. Both Rihanna and Lauryn Hill also cancelled performances on the night due to vocal issues of their own, the Daily Mail reports, with the former advised not to perform by on-site doctors due to a throat infection.
