LEO DEDICATES BAFTA TO THE WOMAN IN HIS LIFE

LEO DEDICATES BAFTA TO THE WOMAN IN HIS LIFE

Leonardo DiCaprio on the BAFTA
 red carpet last night

IF THE whole world wasn't sufficiently in love with Leonardo DiCaprio, the actor took care of that this Valentine's Day, by dedicating his Best Actor BAFTA to the most important woman in his life: his mother.

"I want to thank one more person," DiCaprio said as he took to the stage to accept the prize, and after acknowledging his co-stars, director and the film's vast crew. "I didn't grow up in a life of privilege. I grew up in a tough neighborhood in east Los Angeles and this woman drove me three hours every day to a different school to make sure I had a different opportunity. To my mother, it's her birthday today, this is for you."
Sitting alongside him among the rest of the cast and crew of The Revenant, his mother Irmelin beamed with pride, even filming him as he walked to collect the award. And she had plenty of opportunity to enjoy his celebrations, since The Revenant took home Best Film and Best Director as well.

Alicia Vikander walked last night's BAFTA
red carpet alone

Someone not feeling the love was DiCaprio's fellow Best Actor nominee Michael Fassbender, who was caught on the BAFTA Kiss Cam with girlfriend Alicia Vikander. The twosome - who are famously private and have never appeared publicly together - were nevertheless seated side by side and found themselves on-screen as the audience cheered for them to kiss.

Despite others - including Dame Maggie Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio, and Julianne Moore and Bryan Cranston - obligingly smooching theatrically for the Kiss Cam, the camera-shy couple were resolute in their denial much to the dismay of the assembled guests. Vikander giggled but even host Stephen Fry's gentle taunts couldn't move them to kiss for the crowd.

Many guests did get in to the Valentine spirit though, with almost every winner thanking their other half along with the usual industry gratitude.
