Gwyneth Testifies Against Stalker
Gwyneth Paltrow
GWYNETH PALTROW has taken to the stand in an LA court to testify against a man accused of stalking her since 1999. Paltrow told the court that she felt scared while at home with her children and had been forced to get an attack dog, capable of "attack" and "bite" commands, to protect herself and her family.
The man, 66-year-old Dante Soiu from Ohio, is alleged to have sent the Oscar-nominated actress numerous gifts - including jewellery and sex toys - and over 60 letters in which he expressed his plan to marry her, look after her and rid her of her sin, reports the Guardian. "You are hopelessly lost," he wrote to Paltrow in a 2010 letter. "Now you must die. Yourself, must die so that Christ can have pre-eminence."
Paltrow, who at one point became emotional when recounting her 17-year experience during the hour-long testimony, told the jury: "I felt very upset by it. This has been a very long and very traumatic experience already."
Soiu was found not guilty by reason of insanity of stalking Paltrow in a 2000 court case, after which he was sent to a mental institution for several years. He was, however, re-arrested last year after sending the actress new correspondence. He has pleaded not guilty to the current criminal charges. The court case continues.
